BME 409 Nano-Biomaterials

Credits: (3-0) 3

This course will introduce the synthesis, characterization, and biomedical applications of nanostructured metals, natural/synthetic polymers, composites, macromolecules, and surfaces.  The biomedical applications of these nano-biomaterials will cover medical diagnosis, bioimaging, tissue engineering, and drug delivery.  The emphases will be placed on biofunctionalizations of nanostructured particles and surfaces, interactions of nanomaterials with biological systems (at the levels of biomolecules, cells, tissues, organs, and organisms), and toxicity of nanomaterials.

Prerequisites: BME 233 /MET 233
