Petroleum Systems
The world depends on energy resources to keep their people and economies thriving, and a skilled workforce is essential to meet those energy needs. The Petroleum Systems Certificate Program has a geoscience focus and is geared toward graduate students and professionals who are looking to expand their skill sets in petroleum and related fields, or who are looking to retool and retrain for a new career. Courses are tailored to meet the needs of industry and provide a focused curriculum of classes and cross training.

Background Requirements
The program is available to both graduate students at SD Mines and to outside professionals with relevant B.A./B.S. degrees in engineering and/or science. Some of the courses listed for the program have prerequisites, and students wishing to enroll must either have these prerequisites or obtain the permission of the instructor to take the course.
Program Requirements
The program requires completion of 12 credits of course work (at the graduate level, 500-level or above) from the approved list.
At least 9 credits of the certificate must be taken from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. A grade of “C” or better must be earned in every course in order to earn the certificate.
