Chemistry (BS) is approved by the American Chemical Society, https://www.acs.org.   

The Department of Chemistry, Biology, and Health Sciences offers a BS degree in Chemistry that meets the nationally recognized standards of excellence established by the American Chemical Society.  A specialization in Biochemistry is available for students interested in continuing their education in the application of chemistry to biological systems or following a career path in a medical field. For more information, please visit the Chemistry, Biology, and Health Sciences department webpage.

Chemistry Curriculum/Checklist


The following shows the preferred curriculum for the Chemistry B.S. degree. The sequence of courses taken will depend on the academic preparation of incoming students. Students should consult with their Chemistry academic advisor for individualized course of study. It is important to note that most courses have prerequisite requirements. Moreover, as certain courses are taught every two years, curricula are shown for the junior and senior years for both even and odd year cycles.

Curriculum Notes


Twenty-seven (27) elective credits are required.  These electives can be used to tailor a degree to meet requirements for pursuit of an advanced degree. Note that electives may include any courses chosen by the student and their academic advisor and may include Military Science (MSL), Physical Education (PE), Music (MUS), music ensemble (MUEN) courses and others

2Three credits of advanced chemistry electives are required. Take any one of the following courses:

 
 
 
  

3 Three credit option of Chem 332, Chem 342, Chem 344 is required for the Chemistry major or minor. Two credit option of Chem 344L is required for the Chemistry major or minor. Chem 342L may be phased out of the Chemistry major. 

4 Fulfills General Education requirement. Students should consult the “General Education Requirements ” section of this catalog for a complete listing of all general education requirements.

Optional Specialization in Biochemistry


Students pursuing a Specialization in Biochemistry  work with an advisor to substitute 15 hours of the free electives for the following courses:
