A specialization is considered a separate major in South Dakota Mines’ student record system. In order to pursue this specialization, please request a change of major even if you are currently pursuing a major in the non-specialized version of Chemical Engineering .

Specialization requirements:


To complete the specialization, the following requirements must be met. These requirements are applied towards the Chemical Engineering and Chemical Engineering Lab electives, the Engineering Elective, and the Department Approved Electives within the main Chemical Engineering major (listed below specialization requirements), which must also be completed. Work with your advisor to apply your electives accordingly within the requirements of the Chemical Engineering major.

Work with your advisor to select three credits of engineering courses with a prefix other than CBE; requires advisor approval. These courses are typically at a 200 level or higher.

Work with your advisor to select six credits from CBE, Chemistry, or other approved courses. These courses are typically at a 120 level or higher. May include up to six credits of Cooperative Education ; up to three credits of advanced military science, humanities, social science, or business; one credit of physical education or music ensemble; and EXPL 485 .
