MS in Mining Engineering and Management - Mining Industry Applications Specialization

The Master of Science in Mining Engineering and Management - Mining Industry Applications Specialization only offers a non-thesis option. The course delivery is geared towards both campus and hybrid-distance delivery modes.

SD Mines students accepted to the Accelerated MS option may apply up to 9 credits of 500/600 level MEM credits taken as an undergraduate toward both the BS and the MS degrees.

Degree requirements for non-thesis option


Distribution of credits


Core requirements: 3 credits
Research or project requirements: 0 credits
Elective requirements: 30 credits
Total credits: 33

A minimum of 17 credits of the 33 required must be taken at the 600 level or above.

Core requirements


The following courses are required for this specialization. All core courses must be taken at the 500 level or higher.

Research or project requirements


No research or project is required or permitted for this degree.

Elective requirements


Thirty (30) credits of courses must be selected from this list. All elective courses must be taken at the 500 level or higher.

Examinations


No final degree examination is required for the non-thesis option. Individual courses may hold final examinations as part of the course.

Additional requirements


A maximum of 9 credit hours may be transferred from another accredited institution (400 level or above).

In addition to these degree-specific requirements, the student must also meet the requirements and policies applied to all graduate degrees  by the Council of Graduate Education.
