GEOE 410 Engineering Field GeologyCredits: (0-6) 6
A five-week course in the Black Hills with both team and individual projects involving field and design techniques for geological engineering. Students will learn techniques for assessing rock strength/quality, hydrologic analysis of surface and groundwater, slope stability, as well as the construction of engineering stratigraphic columns, geologic maps, and structural cross-sections. Written or orally presented reports will integrate field observations with focused geological engineering design projects that incorporate appropriate engineering standards and multiple constraints. Arrangements for room and board are made through the Black Hills Natural Sciences field station.
Prerequisites: CEE 346/346L , GEOL 331/331L , and GEOL 322/322L Notes: A minimum grade of “C” is required for graduation with a Geological Engineering BS.
