GEOE 462/562 Well Logging and Core Analysis

Credits: (3-0) 3

Well logging and core analysis offers theories and techniques to determine critical parameters that are required to evaluate, develop, and produce a geothermal or hydrocarbon energy field. Topics such as resistivity, natural gamma radiation, neutron porosity, density, photoelectric absorption, acoustic/sonic, nuclear magnetic resonance, formation pressure, core sampling techniques, core-handling, analysis of petrophysical properties, and geomechanics tests are discussed. Students are given hands-on problems from laboratory and field examples, which reinforce the instruction.

Prerequisites: Junior standing
Notes: Students enrolled in GEOE 562 will be held to a higher standard than those enrolled in GEOE 462.
