CHEM 411/511 Electrochemical and Green Energy Storage

This is a unique course focused on materials for eco-friendly electrochemical energy generation and storage and hydrogen production by electrolysis. These technologies are extremely important for the future of hydrogen economy and environmental sustainability. The course involves description of the most recent breakthrough technologies regarding materials for batteries, supercapacitors, and regenerative fuel cells. The fundamental principles of the materials structure-properties relationships for advancement the electrochemical system performance are emphasized regarding synthesis, morphology,  ionic and electronic conductivity, and mass transport. The focus is made on different ways of materials synthesis, such as organic or inorganic, bottom-up or top-down, and solid-state or liquid sol-gel methods based on green chemistry principles including eco-friendly recycling.

Prerequisites: CHEM 326  and CHEM 352  
Notes: Students enrolled in CHEM 511 will be held to a higher standard than those enrolled in CHEM 411
