AES 450 Synoptic Meteorology I

Applications of governing equations to analyze and predict mid-latitude, synoptic-scale weather systems. Topics include quasi-geostrophic theory, the three-dimensional structure and life cycle of extratropical cyclones, upper tropospheric jets and jet streaks, frontogensis, isentropic analysis, potential vorticity thinking, and analysis of winter storms.
