GEOE 768 Engineering Geology of Surficial Deposits

Advanced study of engineering geology of surficial deposits includes alluvium (alluvial, fluvial, and debris deposits), aeolian, lacustrine, volcanic, and glacial deposits. Review of weathering and soil forming processes, rock/soil contacts, and their impacts on engineering properties of surficial deposits. Format includes lecture and extensive literature reviews. Problems will focus on engineering design issues associated with major engineering projects commonly placed on these deposits.
