Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field focused on the computational collection, organization, and analysis of large-scale biological data. This course introduces key computational tools and techniques used in bioinformatics. Topics include sequence-based similarity searches, pairwise and multiple sequence alignments, phylogenetic tree construction, protein structure modeling, molecular docking, and genome annotation. The course also covers advanced tools such as KBase and Pangenome analysis, as well as next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, DNA microarrays, and various OMICS approaches, including metagenomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, with real-world examples.
