A minimum of 17 credits of the 33 required must be taken at the 600 level or above.

Core requirements

The following courses are required for this specialization. All core courses must be taken at the 500 level or higher.

• MEM 501 Fundamentals of the Mineral Industry Credits: (3-0) 3 *

• * If a student has a BS or MS in Mining Engineering, they may exchange MEM 501 for an elective course.

Research or project requirements

No research or project is required or permitted for this degree.

Elective requirements

Select 30 credits from the 500, 600, or 700 level with a MEM prefix. May also apply ENGM 640  towards electives. Students may petition their advisor to count up to three credits of other graduate-level non-MEM coursework toward the degree.

Examinations

No final degree examination is required for the non-thesis option. Individual courses may hold final examinations as part of the course.

Additional requirements

A maximum of 9 credit hours may be transferred from another accredited institution (400 level or above).

In addition to these degree-specific requirements, the student must also meet the requirements and policies applied to all graduate degrees  by the Council of Graduate Education.
