2 The 12 credits of Department Approved Electives must meet the following requirements:

  • At least nine credits of 400-level or above CEE-prefix courses. A list of the 400-level CEE electives is provided below.
  • Up to six credits of CEE 498 Research  
  • Up to three credits of CEE 491 Independent Study  or CP 497 Cooperative Education  
  • Up to three credits of 300, 400, 500, or 600 level courses in engineering, science, math, or computer science. 

3 Three credits in any engineering, math, science, or computer science course excluding basic introductory courses, such as: CHEM 106 CHEM 106L CSC 105 MATH 21 MATH 101 MATH 114 MATH 114L MATH 115 MATH 116/116L MATH 120 MATH 205 , PHYS 111 PHYS 111L PHYS 113 , or PHYS 113L 

Select three credits of courses with a Social Science prefix (see gen ed Goal 3 for approved prefixes) or three credits of courses with a Humanities prefix (see gen ed Goal 4 for approved prefixes). All must be at the 300 or 400 level.

Objectives and Outcomes


Program Educational Objectives:

  1. Engage in the professional practice of civil engineering and environmental engineering,
  2. Actively participate in professional and/or civic organizations,
  3. Pursue opportunities to assume leadership roles in their professional and/or service activities, and
  4. Seek to continue their educations through advanced studies in civil or environmental engineering or a related professional discipline, continuing education and/or professional development activities.

Student Outcomes:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics,
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors,
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences,
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts,
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives,
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions,
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
