(BOR 2.6.1, AAC 2.3.2.2.D)

Students interested in pursuing a specific minor offered by South Dakota Mines should contact the coordinator of that minor for more specific information.

  • No undergraduate degree program offered at South Dakota Mines requires a minor. It is an optional program addition designed to broaden and enrich your degree.
  • A minor cannot be earned independently of another program. To pursue a minor, the student must actively be pursuing an undergraduate baccelaureate degree. Both will be awarded upon completing the degree.
  • Notification of intent to seek a minor is to be in effect no later than the time of registration for the first semester of the senior year. The minor cannot be retroactively awarded once the student has graduated even if all requirements are met.
  • Regental undergraduate minors consist of 18-24 semester credit hours.
  • Fifty percent of the semester credit hours in a minor must be taken at South Dakota Mines.
  • The specific courses required for a minor in each department and program offering a minor can be found in the section of this catalog where that program is described.
  • The form to declare a minor can be found here: https://www.sdsmt.edu/Academics/Registrar/Forms/. The form must be approved and signed by the head of the department from which the degree will be awarded, and the head of the department from which the minor will be awarded.
