Objectives and Outcomes


Student Outcomes:

  1. demonstrate mastery of the fundamental principles of the governing components of the earth system, and how they interact across spatial and temporal scales;
  2. apply diagnostic, prognostic, and technological tools (e.g., python, numerical weather prediction, analytical chemistry equipment, GIS) to evaluate earth system processes across spatial and temporal scales;
  3. apply critical and analytical thinking to solve relevant scientific problems, through creating and testing well-developed hypotheses to draw conclusions, across atmospheric and environmental sciences;
  4. effectively communicate scientific information in oral and written form at an appropriate level for their audience, including peer scientists, policy makers, and the general public;
  5. understand and utilize the principles of proper ethical behavior within the earth system sciences regarding professional conduct and be aware of the scientific limits of prediction;
  6. create, synthesize, or apply knowledge within the earth system sciences and its intersection with other disciplines, for example, through a capstone experience, and
  7. function effectively both individually and on teams to establish goals, plan tasks, meet deadlines, and analyze risk and uncertainty.
    In Addition: The Meteorology Specialization for the Atmospheric Sciences Batchelor of Science Degree satisfies with the Federal Government’s Office of Personal Management GS-1340 Meteorology Series.
